How Long before France Leaves the Past?

Liliam Thuram

When will Raymond Domenech accept that the old boys’ time has arrived and he should let them go and think of the future of France on a long-term basis?

Liliam Thuram is a great defender and still plays well for Barcelona while Claude Makelele another great midfielder playing for Chelsea are valuable assets for France but they would not be likely to play in FIFA World Cup 2010 in Africa. Looking short-sighted, I don’t think they can even make it past Uefa Euro 2008.

FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship Quarterfinals Preview

Nigeria FIFA U-20 Women's World ChampionshipMajestic Falconets of Nigeria assured their spot in the quarterfinals with a crushing job over Finland 8 – 0. They did not need to win to join China in the quarterfinals but coach Emmanuel Tetteh Okonkwo had other things in mind. He instructed his team to attack strong and put the team away which saw them firing repeatedly and pounding Switzerland’s inferior football to the tune of eight times seeing the ball behind the net.

Cynthia Uwak led the charge against Finland in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship with a hat trick as a result of her continous and tireless attack on Finland.

Below are the team that qualified for the quarterfinals (enclosed in brackets are their point total):

Group A – Russia (5), Brazil (5)

Group B – China PR (9), Nigeria (6)

Group C – Korea DPR (9), Germany (6)

Group D – France (6), USA (6)—Both team still has to face each other in their last group game

I am running a poll on which team shall win in Russia 2006 at the right side column. Go and cast your vote.

FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship TeamsFIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship is where you will discover and see the rising and future superstars of big Women leagues.

Group A

Australia is powered by captain Sally Shipard whose youthfullness show a lot of firepower but in general, Australia’s depth is going to be a problem for them.

Brazil is definitely the favorite in this group having the depth, exposure and skill set to beat any opponent. They are led by a strong leader in Marta who is expected to power this squad easily past the stage.

Pavel Nedved Retire before being Axed

Pavel NedvedPavel Nedved doesn’t have any injuries and is perfectly fit but announces he is no longer playing for the Czech National team to give younger players a chance and says it was a difficult decision for him.

I don’t think it was a difficult decision for him to make since he doesn’t really have any options, and the difficulty lies in his acceptance that he can no longer play and keep up with the younger players in the National Team. At 34 years old, it would be foolish for a coach to include him in the team and build plays together with him as he is already at the sunset of his career and most likely would not be a factor in Euro 2008, let alone FIFA World Cup in South Africa on 2010.

Beckham’s Resignation as Captain was a Blessing in Disguise

David BeckhamA lot of David Beckham’s fans were sad when he stepped down as captain of England following their World Cup exit, but it turned out to be a sub-conscious guard mechanism to lessen the pain for a future axing from the captaincy.

England has been an underachiever for as long as people could remember and David Beckham’s popularity is all that’s left of their image and success, whose loser status in footballing world was cemented by their early exit once again, so as the future of David Beckham on England.

Alex Ferguson has resigned from the position long ago and stated that the World Cup would be his last assignment for the country, and this is an indication that a revamp will follow soon after, including David Beckham who will most likely be stripped of his role; but little did people know that he’s leadership role is not only in danger but also his membership with the club.

Terry, immature drunkard to a mature England captain. Congratulations.

John TerryReprimanded for drunken and disorderly behavior back in September 2001 and charged on assaulting a nightclub bouncer in 2002, the immature and irresponsible John Terry grew into a fine man and good leader as the captain of Chelsea since 2003 leading them to back-to-back Premier League titles.

Very young at 25 years old, John is an excellent choice of McClaren for having the experience, leadership characteristics, responsibility and technical skills to lead England in successive years. He will develop and become more valuable for England and for the future of the team.

Ronaldinho is bitter in World Cup Loss & Snubs Zidane

Can you just imagine the media frenzy that exploded right after Zidane’s headbutt followed by the world talking about the incident for both football and non-football fans alike? His headbutt move is found everywhere from televisions, posters, screensavers, pop-ups even in non-football forums where users use a gif photo showing his headbutt move as their icons.

Not for Ronaldinho who admits he has never seen that moment nor any other news after they lost to France.

Carlos Parreira is Happy to Land a Job

Carlos Alberto ParreiraCarlos Alberto Parreira is definitely all smiles after he signed a four-year deal to coach South Africa in World Cup 2010. This is definitely a better job than what was first offered to him—manage World Cup Finals of 2010. There is no glory in acting as administrator of the greatest sport in the world. Carlos wants to be on the sidelines with player not on some seat high above where the action is.
