Japan has proven their defense can hold. They did not allow Cameroon to score and managed to sneak one on them. Against Netherlands, Japan only allowed one goal against a team that can score two to three goals in a game. Japan plays tough and solid defense and waits for the right counterattack.

Why Denmark would win?

Denmark has made it to the next round in the last three FIFA World Cup appearances and this team would want to win while a draw could get them to the next round because of their superior goal difference.

Denmark needs to check their defense if they want to win, they have no problems scoring but they have also given up goals to opponents more than they should.

This is a pressure packed match as Japan is playing to win because a draw would not be enough for them. Denmark is not taking any chances and would want to score and win this game instead of tying the score and risk Japan sneaking in a goal.

New Zealand cannot afford to draw this game, they need to win badly and score more goals if a tie with Italy happens. This team is resilient as they never gave up against Slovakia and managed to put a goal to draw the game.

Why Paraguay would win?

Paraguay is on top of the group standings, they have beaten Slovakia by two goals to none while New Zealand barely tied their match. Paraguay only needs a draw to move to the next round. This team is not taking any chances and would play as safe as they can.

Why Italy would win?

Italy is not playing the way they did four years ago but good news for this team since they are playing against the lowest in their group Slovakia. Cannavaro is a step behind and Italy is not playing as a unit but a draw is all they need to advance to the next round as most likely Paraguay is going to win against New Zealand.

Why Slovakia would win?

As I said Italy is not playing well and when a team is in disarray, older and steps behind then you can have your chance. Slovakia can sneak in as long as they are patient. Italy can’t defend the way they did often making mistakes on defense and Slovakia needs to have the right timing to score a goal. If Slovakia wins they have a chance of advancing provided Paraguay wins.

This is a must win for both teams. Both these teams can still make it past the next round and the only thing they needs to worry about is to win this game.

Recap

This was a tough game for Australia and they didn’t only need to win but they had to win big scoring a number of goals. They fought from the start and Cahill had a great moments in the first half which just fell short of a goal.

In the second half, Australia was blazing, attacking as quickly and often as they can. They were rewarded on the 69th minute with a goal from Cahill. Four minutes later, Australia scored another goal via Holman. Things looked good and Australia may have scored three more goals. Remember Portugal scoring three goals in seven minutes against Korea DPR?

Serbia came back and scored on the 84th minute. The effort of both these teams were great but not enough.

This was a great game and Australia and Serbia have something to celebrate about especially for Australia who could have gone to the next round had they scored a few more goals.

Ghana and Germany are moving to the next round.

Winner:Australia

This was a great game for Australia as they tried to score as many goals as they can to advance to the next round beating Ghana on goal difference. That did not happen but Australia still had a good run in the finals.

Australia needs a miracle to move to the next round as they have never beaten a European country in FIFA World Cup finals. Everything has a first time and Australia hope this is the one.

Recap

Germany needed this win and they started strong and ended strong. They continued to setup play aggressively as Podolksi was phenomenal working with Cacau attacking the goal.

Ghana was strong on defense denying attacks, launching counter attacks, and their goalkeeper made phenomenal saves throughout the game.

Germany’s relentless play paid off on the 60th minute when Oezil scored the only goal of the game.

This German team didn’t want to go down in history as the first team to fail in the group stage. They played strong early on and it paid well.

Why Germany would win?

Germany is relentless and their never say die attitude have saved them many times over. They have never failed to qualify to the next round and these guys aren’t starting this year. They would fight for every possession and score as many goals as they can. They have proven they can win big games and this is no different.

Why Ghana would win?

This is one of the best teams of Ghana and Asamoah Gyan who scored in every game is in rhythm. He would look for his break into the game and could carry this team to win.

Key Takeaway

This is a very important game for Germany and they cannot afford to become the first team to fail in the group stage. Expect these guys to come out strong early on.

Ghana knows this is their best shot to move deeper into the tournament, and Gyan and his team mates are going to do everything they can to stop Germany.

Recap

That was a very tough game to watch where USA kept on coming back for the attack while Algeria held their own on defense stopping any potential goals and their goalkeeper had his moments.

When the destiny of USA was sleeping away, Donovan came up with a goal on the 90th minutes + 1 which sent the team in frenzy.

That was a well deserved win and I feel sorry for Algeria who worked their ass off until the end.

USA was in control of their destiny on this game and they did not let it pass by. This is most likely the last FIFA World Cup of Donovan or this is the peak of his career in this stage of the competition and the man did not disappoint scoring the goal for the win of USA.
