Brazil duplicate Germany’s Strategy in Dunga

in News & Features

Brazil DungaBrazil’s loss to France in the World Cup 2006 was a surprise to majority of the people, which prompted a series of write-ups criticizing Carlos Alberto Parreira’s boring style of play, opposite what Brazil has been known for — exciting, offensive-minded-plays, highly technical soccer.

Brazilian style was lacking in this year’s tournament that did not allow even the World’s number one Footballer, Ronaldinho, to shine. The media pressure including everyone shouting for change prompted for the resignation of Parreira, but brought surprise to the world when Dunga, a tough defensive midfielder and captain of Brazil when they won World Cup in 1994, was chosen instead of Vanderlei Luxemburgo or Paulo Autuori who are both experienced and well known.

US Girls Is not as Pathetic as their Boys

in News & Features

Amy RodriguezThe US women’s division is a very strong unit expected to perform very well in the upcoming Women’s U-20 championships in Russia this coming August, hoping to bring some sanity to football reputation in their country whose Men’s division brought so much shame in the recent FIFA World Cup 2006.

The U.S. team is looked poised for a proud performance following their focused training for several months in California, series of friendly competitions against top squads, a total of around 50 games since January, and were the U-19 world champions in 2002.

Brazil Deserves World Cup 2014,not Columbia

in News & Features

Brazil FIFA World CupIn 2008, FIFA will choose the 2014 host for FIFA World Cup and I strongly support Brazil instead of a Columbian country who already failed to live up to expectations after pulling out in 1986 which saw Mexico taking the task in a short notice.

Brazil’s football dominance and reputation is unparalleled, their graceful playmaking skills, passionate people from the country and string of awards are simply undeniable and it would be fitting to see them host the competitions in their own country.

South Africa 2010 Logo

in News & Features

FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010On July 7, 2006 FIFA unveiled the logo for the next FIFA World Cup 2006 in South Africa. The logo symbolizes the growing sport in Africa as depicted by the player pointed upwards. Also, this shows a more active expression as compared to Germany 2006 which displayed a friendly attitude. Will South Africa be a hostile place for foreigners and see teams like Ghana dominating?

Four years is a short wait and the next thing we knew we are talking about the sport once again.

Arena Leaves Dull Soccer for Successor

in News & Features

Bruce ArenaBruce Arena will have the last laugh in the latest debacle of his career having been fired by U.S. Soccer Federation by not renewing his contract.

Some bright memories of Bruce include getting credit for Lando Donovan, Beasley and Pablo Mastroeni in helping in their development and catapulting them in the highest ranks of U.S. soccer.

As Bruce leaves, the general perception is he’s done great things for U.S. soccer and leaves them a far better place than what it looked liked during his arrival in 1998.

Klinsmann Targets USA

in Coach, management & operation/News & Features

Jurgen KlinsmannThe word is out that Jurgen Klinsmann who revolutionized Germany’s style of play is leaving Germany and assistant coach Joachim Loew is taking over. Loew is the closest coach Germany could get if they want to continue their fast attacking style Jurgen put in place. And to reinforce the decision Loew is promised to continue with Klinsmann’s style and says: That’s the only way we can achieve a lasting place among the very best in the world.

Jose Pekerman Leaves

in Coach, management & operation/News & Features

Jose Pekerman I am deeply saddened and strongly disagree that Jose Pekerman
would quit as the Argentinan coach. His announcement came right after they lost to Germany which makes me hope those are words of emotions and not based on logical reasoning.

Argentina was superb on the field playing great football, ran and positions themselves well on the field and was so dangerous on counter-attacks and opening opportunities in goal scoring. Jose assembled a young, explosive and attacking team that could light the scoreboard every game. You cannot take away anything from this team who played against the host nation, were scoring against one of the best goalies in the world and only lost on penalty kicks with their substitute keeper guarding their goal.

Jurgen for Bruce?

in Coach, management & operation/News & Features

Lousy performance after an arrogant string of media announcements could not help but put a gag on his mouth and show no signs of comeback for the United States team. The disappointing performance of U.S. in the world cup would weigh in the decision of Arena and U.S. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati if they should part ways or make another run.

This is actually old story, but for the benefit of those who have not heard it yet

Did you know that each of the 3.2 million World Cup Tickets is equipped with an RFID tag to scan and monitor each fan upon arrival at the gates of any of the 12 stadiums?
