45’+1 Chungyong (1) Korea Republic

Recap

Argentina showed how the game of football is played. Korea Republic was so frustrated because their own player Chuyoung was the one who scored the goal for Argentina. But it didn’t take long before Argentina scored another goal followed by two more goals as the Argentina squad demolished Korea Republic with four goals making the mistake of Park Chuyoung a non-factor for the game.

Most notable in the game is the hat trick scored by Higuain on the game.

Matcho & Result: France vs Mexico (17 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: France vs Mexico (17 Jun 2010)Winner: Mexico
Score: France(0) vs Mexico(2)
64′ Hernandez (Mexico)
79′ Blanco (Mexico)

Recap
The first half was boring both team kept on exchanging possessions, shooting wide and over the goal, free-kicks that amount to nothing and above all, a goal less first half.

The only bright light in the first game is the young legs of the attacking Mexicans particularly Giovani dos Santos.

In the second half things changed, as Mexico run smoothly, attacked faster, orchestrated the offense in a rhythm and was solid on defense and constant challenges.

As a result, Mexico has won their first international win over France and they deserved this win with the way they played. Mexico has already assured themselves of a place in the next round.

Below are the goals scored:

79′ GOAL SCORED by Mexico — C. Blanco

64′ GOAL SCORED by Mexico — J. Hernandez

Matcho & Result: Greece vs Nigeria (17 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match and Result: Greece vs Nigeria (17 Jun 2010)Winner: Greece
Score: Greece(2) vs Nigeria(1)
71′ Torosidis (1) Greece
44′ Salpingidis (1) Greece
16′ Uche (1) Nigeria

Recap

That was a strong game for Greece and they have made history by winning their first FIFA World Cup finals game.

It looked like Nigeria had the upper hand when they scored the first goal on the 16th minutes but after that they lost focus on defense as Greece shot on goal so many times without the defenders blocking or helping out the goalkeeper.

Greece scored two goals to win the game.

The videos for the goals scored is found here — Videos: Greece vs Nigeria (17 Jun 2010).

Key Takeaway

Nigeria is in a very tough spot and their only chance for getting in the next round is for them to win against Korea Republic and Greece gets beaten by Argentina to force a three way tie with Korea Republic, and Greece.

Matcho & Result: South Africa vs Uruguay (16 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: South Africa vs Uruguay (16 Jun 2010)Winner: Uruguay
Score: South Africa(0) vs Uruguay(3)
24′ Diego Forlan (Uruguay)
80′ Diego Forlan (Uruguay)
90’+5 Alvaro Pereira (Uruguay)

Recap

South Africa was demolished by Uruguay on three goals to nothing. Diego Forlan of Uruguay delivered the first goal on the 24th minute.

From that time on, South Africa was desperately going after the equalizer fueled by the crowd but the stretched out defense by Uruguay proved too much for the Bafana Bafana. The closest chance they had was when Katlego Mphela missed on an open header via a cross from Siboniso.

Uruguay was headed for a victory when Diego Forlan got another goal on the 80th minute which just sealed the game. Uruguay didn’t let up as on the 90th minute plus 5 on the extension, Alvaro Pereira go another goal.

Key Takeaway

The loss was devastating for South Africa and the only chance they have for advancing is winning the game against powerhouse France. Switzerland just pulled off an upset over Spain and South Africa can still hope for the best.

Matcho & Result: Spain vs Switzerland (16 Jun 2010)

in News & Features

Match & Result: Spain vs Switzerland (16 Jun 2010)This will be updated after the game.

Winner: Switzerland
Score: Spain(0) vs Switzerland(1)
51′ Gelson Fernandes

Recap

The inevitable happened and Switzerland made the biggest upset in the tournament thus far.

I cannot question Spain’s determination as they shot one goal after another in the game. By the time Switzerland scored a goal during the 51st minute of the game, that was only the second shot on goal for Switzerland. Spain at that time already had 14 shots on goal but just couldn’t get a goal.

Spain felt pressure when Switzerland scored and the coach deployed Fernando Torres back in the game despite having an injury. The star striker of Spain had a lot of shots on the goal but the closest he could get was hitting the bar.

Switzerland showed a patient defense similar to what Korea DPR has showed against Brazil as they let their high profile opponent control possession and the game while waiting for the chance to counterattack and score.

Key Takeaway

You cannot discount any team in the FIFA World Cup and even high profile teams should treat their opponents with respect and focus on getting that goal on the scoreboard. Spain is going to fight very hard on their next games as they don’t want getting booted out in the first round.

Matcho & Result: Honduras vs Chile (16 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match and Result: Honduras vs Chile (16 Jun 2010)This will be updated after game time.

Winner: Chile
Score: Honduras(0) vs Chile(1)
34′ Jean Beausejour (Chile)

Recap

It was a great win for Chile fitting for how they dominated the entire game. This team has scored 32 goals in the qualifiers and the way they attacked and broken down the Honduras defense showed how potent their scoring abilities are.

Jean Beausejour scored a goal on the 34th minute and the lone goal for Chile doesn’t justify how dominant they were. More than midway the first half, Chile already had 63 possessions against Hondura’s 37 possessions.

Man of the Match was Alexis Sanchez who delivered a spectacular game via his crisp, accurate passing, timely attack and fluid orchestration. This guy is only 21 years old and barring injuries, he could just be a force to reckon with on two to three more FIFA World Cups.

Key Takeaway

Chile was touted to win this game and the team did not disappoint. I believe they should have scored more goals had it not been for successive saves by the Hondura’s goalkeeper.

Matcho & Result: Brazil vs Korea DPR (15 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: Brazil vs Korea DPR (15 Jun 2010)Winner: Brazil
Score: Brazil(2) vs Korea DPR(1)
55′ Maicon (1), Brazil
72′ Elano (1), Brazil
89′ J. Yun Nam (1), Korea DPR

Recap

Brazil is too cocky as they quickly turned the gas pedal on where Elano got to see the goal for a chance to score which just went off target. A few seconds after Robinho had his chance it went wide. Brazil is getting a lot of possession on the first ten minutes of the game. Korea’s first shot on goal came on the 11th minutes where J. Tae Se shoots it up but was a great save by Julio Cesar of Brazil.

Brazil controlled the game and already had three corner kicks before Korea got their first corner kick on the 29th minute.

Throughout the game Brazil took their time setting up play from midfield where Korea DPR wasn’t challenging and was waiting for them on a stone wall defense. Korea patiently waiting for Brazil to attack, challenge and run for a counterattack.

This is a frustrating first half for Brazil where people expected them to have score a goal or two. I admittedly dismissed Korea from my pre-game analysis of Brazil vs Korea DPR. I expected Brazil to score 5 to 8 goals for the game.

When second half came, Brazil continued with getting the possession and controlling the tempo of the game. Brazil had a chance to score on a free kick from top of the key. Brazil scored 11 goals directly from free kick and other team has had more. Robinho shot the free kick from top of the box but was wide left.

Brazil then exploded in joy on the 55th minute when Maicon scored a goal from the right of the key. Video found here — Match & Result: Brazil vs Korea DPR Maicon Scores first Goal for Brazil.

On the 72th another goal by Elano gave Brazil 2 points. The video is found here — Match & Result: Brazil vs Korea DPR Elano Scores second Goal for Brazil.

On the 89th minute Korea stunned everyone when J. Yun Nam scored a goal and Korea was celebrating triumphantly. The video is found here — Match & Result: Brazil vs Korea DPR J. Yun Nam Scores first Goal for Korea DPR.

Key Takeaway

Korea was dismissed early on where Brazil was expected to make one goal after the other against Korea. Korea DPR is the lowest ranking team in FIFA World Cup and the five time World Cup champions Brazil should have an easy win. As it turned out, Korea DPR stayed with the team powered by high profile players in Robinho, Kaka, Luis Fabiano.

There was a lot of pressure for Brazil to score and they had a sigh of relief when did so in the second half. Brazil was looking to close with 2 goals ahead of South Korea when the Asian team scored on t
he 89th minute.

Brazil with all its power could only get a 1 goal lead which shows the potential of the Korea DPR. Group G just became a lot more interesting.
