France

These fans could have been a multitude of wandering fools roaming around Germany had France failed to qualify to the next round. The winner of World Cup Finals in 1998 could have sent a brain twisting frustration to it’s fans had they not shaved off the tough and hardworking Togo.

Thanks in part to captain Patrick Vieira who made sure they got their first win before any early vacation took place by scoring the first goal and setting up the shot for France’s second goal.

The win could have gone either way when Togo was putting everything in the table and pushing France to the limit as the halftime ended with no goals scored.

The second half came and a rejuvenated France team went on an attacking mode getting more options and shots on the goal. The extra aggresiveness paid off when Vieira scored the the first goal on the 55th minute and followed by Thierry via the captain’s set play six minutes later.

This may be his last World Cup Finals and it’s good to see he’s finishing with a bang; thanks to him for filling up the shoes of Zinedine Zidane who is serving his suspension on the bench.

What is Next for France?

Vieira is confident our their chances and has this to say:

‘There’s a great potential in this team and I hope this qualification will help us play more freely because we aren’t bad at all, It took time and it was difficult but in the end we proved competitive and reached our first goal which was to advance to the second round. It’s true that, on a personal level, it’s a great satisfaction, I’m feeling better.

Congratulations to France! I am happy that a player like Zidane is not exiting the first round on probably his last World Cup.
