The loss of Brazil in FIFA World Cup Germany prompted for the replacement of Parreira by Dunga which signaled the start of a different approach for the national team in preparation for FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
What is the new work ethic of Dunga?
There is no star status in the team. Yes, Dunga made it clear that superstar names would not have any special treatment whatsoever and everyone is given the chance to prove themselves. Ronaldinho who played poorly in the FIFA World Cup took the loss a little too hard and had it not been for his celebrity name he should have spent time on the bench because of his poor playing. Ronaldinho admits to follow the new work ethic of the team:
In football, you need to prove every day that you deserve to be part of the national squad, that you deserve to be in the starting XI, and I am willing to fight for my place. As there is a new work ethic, a new coach and many new players, everyone is looking to work well together.
Dunga started out his new approach by leaving out veterans Adriano, Cafu, Dida and Emerson from playing against Argentina and Wales games which translated to victories after they drew a game against Norway last month. It seems that Brazil is tired of their hype status and would like to instill hard work, discipline and no nonsense level of playing on the field. Dunga does not want complacency to overpower them and would like to prepare the team in the FIFA World Cup South Africa in 2010.
Aside from leaving the resident names of the Brazilian squad, Dunga also left Kaka on the bench until the last half hour of their game against Argentina.
Dunga seems headed to the right direction by giving younger players a chance to prove themselves and has played 21 players in London including 18-year-old Fluminense left-back Marcelo who scored the first goal in White Hart Lane.

Dunga has started well, no doubt about that. Despite his lack of coaching experience, he’s been able so far to show that more important than a name, you should show that you deserve a spot in the team, or at least will try hard to help the squad.
It’s just a natural thing using new players to reinforce this new idea. However as time goes by, it will be impossible not to use the talent and force of some of the world’s top footballers like Kaka and Ronaldinho. The older generation of Cafu, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo are likely done, though, as they have been severely criticized for their performance in Germany and have probably stayed their fair share of time with the Selecao.
