Pre-game: Netherlands vs Spain (11 Jul 2010)Match Details
Netherlands-Spain, Finals, Johannesburg – Soccer City Stadium, Sunday 11 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain are the European Champions and they have the best team in decades fielded today with David Villa, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez playing in-synch, smooth and deadly on offense. Spain’s midfield would control the offense and these guys defense have been top notch giving only two goals throughout the tournament.

Why Netherlands would win?

If you have seen the Netherlands vs Brazil game, the dutchmen played strong and rough anchored on Arjen Robben, supported by Wesley Sneijder. These guys are so tough on the field that they could get their opponents losing control and focus. Arjen Robben’s ability to carry the play feeding Sneijder for a goal is the key for Netherlands.

Key Takeaway

Spain is looking for their first FIFA World Cup championships and their European Championship gives them confidence and experience towards winning the tournament. Iker Casillas‘ ability to stop goals, call out stone wall defenses on free kicks from opponents would win the game for this team.

Netherlands is going to be strong throughout the game and the combo of Arjen and Sneijder is going to make for some exciting results.

I am routing for Spain, and I would like these guys to win. The Spaniards get my vote.

Pre-game: Uruguay vs Germany (10 Jul 2010)Match Details
Uruguay-Germany, Third Place, Port Elizabeth – Port, Saturday 10 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Germany would win?

Germany has proven they are a scoring machine and being the third youngest team in the tournament have showed everyone their ability to run, setup plays, counterattack with blinding speed and score four goals in a game, something they have done three times in 2010 FIFA World cup.

Miroslav Klose is a deadly striker and he can put up two goals tonight and expect something from Muller and company to do the same.

Why Uruguay would win?

Uruguay is fielding their best national team in decades and they are powered by Diego Forlan on the scoring end while their defense is a strong wall stopping opponents. This team would be patient for counter attacks and goal scoring opportunities.

Key Takeaway

This may not be the finals but both these teams would want to have a podium finish in the tournament. Germany has beaten Portugal in 2006 finishing third in the tournament and I have my money on this team again.

Score: Germany(0) vs Spain(1)
73′ Puyol (Spain)

Recap

This was a strong game for both teams cancelling their attacking game plan and exchange of possessions happen so often throughout the game. In the end, one goal from Spain separated them.

Spain has won a number of games with one goal and this game was no different.

Key Takeaway

Spain is the European champions and they came to the tournament as the favorites. This team did not disappoint and their first trip to the finals can earn them their first FIFA World Cup title.

73′ SPAIN SCORES via Puyol – with the way things are going this seems to be a closer.

Half-time Both team exchange possessions. I am not used to seeing this kind of game as Spain controls possession most of the time and Germany controls possession also. This time, neither team maintains possession and exchanges are made often.

Pre-game: Germany vs Spain (07 Jul 2010)Match Details
Germany-Spain, Semi-Finals, Durban, Thursday 07 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain has the experience, composure to win this game. The European champions is the best attacking team in the tournament this year and they have attacked the goal more than any team. Fernando Torres, David Villa and the entire Spanish team attack relentlessly and they find ways to score a goal for a win.

Why Germany would win?

Germany has gone wild in this game having scored the most number of goals in the tournament at 13. They have scored 4 goals in a game more than once and the 2006 golden boot awardee Miroslav Klose is looking to make history as the highest scoring player in FIFA World Cup.

Germany is the third youngest team in the tournament which gives them the legs to run and run with Spain and even outrun their opponents in the end.

Key Takeaway

This is an explosive game and while Spain has the experience for a stable gameplay all throughout until they score a goal for the win, Germany has Miroslav Klose who is a cold-blooded striker that can deliver the goal calmly and accurately in the game. With Germany’s third youngest legs scoring 4 goals in their games multiple times, I have my bets on Germany.

Match & Result: Paraguay vs Spain (03 Jul 2010)Winner: Spain
Score: Paraguay(0) vs Spain(1)
83′ David Villa (Spain)

Recap

That was a gritty game where both sides where pushing towards the semi-finals. Spain was relentless on their attack, setting up plays, pushing the ball, creating opportunities. Paraguay was stubborn, defending extremely well, getting solid wall defenses in the face of Spain.

The stone wall defense of Paraguay eventually gave in to David Villa who scored the goal on the 83rd minute which sent the Spaniards to the semi-finals.

Key Takeaway

This was an outstanding game but in the end Spain are moving to the semi-finals. This now set Spain for an epic and gigantic battle against Germany. That should be the game to watch.

Match & Result: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)Winner: Germany
Score: Argentina(0) vs Germany(4)

74′ Friedrich (Germany)
68′, 89′ Klose (Germany)
03′ Muller (Germany)

Recap

What was supposed to be an epic game proved too much for Lionel Messi and Argentina as they got demolished by Germany. Germany is the third youngest team next to Korea DPR and Ghana but their youth certainly paid off as they run wild on the field as Argentina could not keep up with the pace losing by four big goals.

This is perhaps the biggest loss Argentina has suffered against Germany and this is a repeat of the 2006 quarter finals loss to the same team.

Key Takeaway

Germany was a strong team going into the tournament but today they are legit contenders on winning the FIFA World Cup Finals which they last won 20 years ago in 1990.

This young team was expected to gain experience in this tournament and become contenders in 2014 but it seems the time of Germany is this year.

Below are the highlights:

Full-time

This is another heartbreaker as Argentina didn’t equalize and they didn’t put up a good fight against Germany. They have deteriorated in the second half.

89′ GERMANY SCORES via Klose

74′ GERMANY SCORES via Friedrich

68′ GERMANY SCORES via Klose

Half-time

This was supposed to be a great first half if it wasn’t for the spoiler of Muller on a header from a free kick. Argentina made that defensive breakdown and at this level, teams win on small things.

03′ GERMANY SCORES via Muller
