This was a boring game to start with but things quickly changed on the second half especially when Switzerland became short handed with Behrami and Chile began pounding their to victory.

It became very physical with altercations, nine yellow cards and the red card Switzerland was booked on.

Key Takeaway

This was a tough game and Chile badly wanted to win and it showed the way they played all the way to the end. Chile made their win interesting for Switzerland and Spain. Spain is going to look to winning and scoring a lot of goals.

Why Switzerland would win?

Switzerland came off a historic win against powerhouse Spain. These guys were able to hold their own on defense as they survived a barrage of shots on goal by Spain. They looking for win as this would secure their place on the next round.

Why Chile would win?

Chile have shown how fast they can attack individually and as a team against Honduras. They would employ the same technique against Switzerland looking to score a goal on the process. They have seen how Spain launched a large number of shots on goal which was either caught by the goalkeeper or deflected by their defense. These guys surely have found a way to break into that.

Key Takeaway

Both of these teams are playing for assurance to move into the next round and loss here would mean they have to rely on Spain for their fate. Neither would want that to happen because in this game, their destiny is in their hands.

Portugal produces three goals in seven minutes but not because of their skill but Korea DPR seems out of focus on defense. They have totally lost it.

The goalkeeper of Korea DPR didn’t show top level play as a long low shot by Cristiano Ronaldo that didn’t have power was fumbled, and when he came back getting the ball, the goalkeeper fumbled again.

Second-half

Half-time

Korea DPR should have been pleased more than half way through when they were keeping Portugal at bay from scoring but it didn’t last long after the goal by Portugal on the 29th minute.

Korea DPR however, played good defense overall, Portugal was relentless getting that breakaway.

Recap

This was a devastating loss by Korea DPR from Portugal.

Korea DPR looked happy on the first 28 minutes as they were able to hold their own on defense and Portugal had a hard time shooting on goal. Things changed on the 29th minute when Portugal saw and opportunity on streaking Raul Meireles who shot one to the goal.

Korea DPR didn’t attack and hold on to the ball as Portugal did. They were simply outplayed. But to give these guys credit, they didn’t allow Portugal to score a number of goals.

Korea DPR goalkeeper didn’t show top play as a long shot of Ronaldo that was low and didn’t have power and spin was fumbled, and when the ball was rolling, the goalkeeper got it but fumbled again.

Portugal was taking any chances during defense as they had all ten players creating a wall during free kicks by Korea. This shows Portugal was very careful after they scored that goal. They cannot afford Korea sneaking in a goal.

On the 53rd minute things changed as Portugal made a barrage of scores from Simao, Almeida, Tiago, Liedson, & Ronaldo giving Portugal their biggest win in FIFA World Cup on 7 goals to none.

Portugal destroyed Korea DPR’s defense and the goalkeeper just didn’t have moves and heart to pull the stops.

Portugal went into the game knowing they needed to win and score more goals than 1 to make sure they were ahead on goal count. They didn’t only score 1 goal but had 7 goals to one. It was a blowout and one of the biggest wins in FIFA World Cup 2010.

Why Korea DPR would win?

Korea DPR showed a lot of toughness on defense against Brazil as they did not concede a goal until more than an hour later. Even when Brazil scored the goal, Korea DPR came back with their own goal as a signal that these guys play with a lot of heart.

These guys are fast on team defense, and counterattacks quickly. They do not hold possession on the ball as long as their opponent but they can definitely stop attacks.

Why Portugal would win?

Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal just came in a draw against Ivory Coast which got beaten badly by Brazil. This team has underachieved on the world stage and Cristiano Ronaldo knows his reputation is on the line. He would come up big and score a goal or two. Even if he doesn’t score, this guy will orchestrate the offense and rub it off on his teammates.

Key Takeaway

This is critical for Portugal as they only have one point and their last game would be against Brazil. If they lose or draw this match then they would be in trouble as Ivory Coast is most likely to beat Korea DPR.

Why New Zealand would win?

New Zealand was able to come from behind and score a goal against Slovakia to tie the match. They can defend well, and patient enough for counter attacks. If Italy doesn’t improve their defense on aging Cannavaro, New Zealand could stick one against the Italians.

Why Italy would win?

Italy’s power relies heavily on their defense anchored on Buffon and Cannavaro. Buffon is out and Cannavaro has aged since the last world cup that he has lost a step or two behind. If he improves on this game and gets to rub it off his younger teammates, then Italy could be back in winning form.

Both of these teams are desparate for a win especially because Paraguay was able to win earlier which puts them on top of their group standings. Whoever wins this game has their eyes on the next round matches.

Full-time

This was an efficient game for Paraguay as they dominated possession, shots on goal throughout the game. Paraguay’s efficiency paid off with two goals from Vera and Riveros.

Half-time

Paraguay is dominating this game as they already have eight shots on goal compared to one from Slovakia. But again, you have seen games where teams got 300% percent more shots on goal but could not score. Spain?

Recap

Cameroon started strong with their star player scoring the first goal on the tenth minute of the game. The scoring of Samuel Eto’o was missed on the first game and he quickly made up for that by scoring quickly and giving Cameroon a chance to advance.

Denmark however, scored two more goals as this team would not go out easily. Bendtner scored the equalizer on the 33rd minute and Rommedahl made sure they win this game on the 61st minute by giving them another goal.

Key Takeaway

This was a heart breaking loss for Cameroon and all the South African fans as they no longer have a chance to move to the next round. Denmark on the other hand, made sure their hopes were still alive.
