He did well to recover and clear the ball before Hugo Almeida could head home the rebound. With the momentum on their side, Portugal continued to attack. Ronaldo unleashed a blazing free kick from nearly 45 yards away that Casillas had a great deal of difficulty dealing with. Once again he was able to clear before a Portuguese striker made him pay for his mistake. Portugal continued the siege on Casillas’ net with Raul Meireles swinging a dangerous cross into the box that Almeida got a head on. Unfortunately for the Portuguese it floated wide without.
