Thanks for joining me. Hope to see you again in the next game, LivebloggingMilo.

I am updating this page with a summary of highlights on the first half, and second half. Also, I would post goals scored if any right away including the video here.

For details of happenings, you can get it at FIFA.

Below are the highlights:

This was a strong game for both teams cancelling their attacking game plan and exchange of possessions happen so often throughout the game. In the end, one goal from Spain separated them.

73′ SPAIN SCORES via Puyol – with the way things are going this seems to be a closer.

Half-time Both team exchange possessions. I am not used to seeing this kind of game as Spain controls possession most of the time and Germany controls possession also. This time, neither team maintains possession and exchanges are made often.

Pre-game: Germany vs Spain (07 Jul 2010)Match Details
Germany-Spain, Semi-Finals, Durban, Thursday 07 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain has the experience, composure to win this game. The European champions is the best attacking team in the tournament this year and they have attacked the goal more than any team. Fernando Torres, David Villa and the entire Spanish team attack relentlessly and they find ways to score a goal for a win.

Why Germany would win?

Germany has gone wild in this game having scored the most number of goals in the tournament at 13. They have scored 4 goals in a game more than once and the 2006 golden boot awardee Miroslav Klose is looking to make history as the highest scoring player in FIFA World Cup.

Germany is the third youngest team in the tournament which gives them the legs to run and run with Spain and even outrun their opponents in the end.

Key Takeaway

This is an explosive game and while Spain has the experience for a stable gameplay all throughout until they score a goal for the win, Germany has Miroslav Klose who is a cold-blooded striker that can deliver the goal calmly and accurately in the game. With Germany’s third youngest legs scoring 4 goals in their games multiple times, I have my bets on Germany.

Match & Result: Paraguay vs Spain (03 Jul 2010)Winner: Spain
Score: Paraguay(0) vs Spain(1)
83′ David Villa (Spain)

Recap

That was a gritty game where both sides where pushing towards the semi-finals. Spain was relentless on their attack, setting up plays, pushing the ball, creating opportunities. Paraguay was stubborn, defending extremely well, getting solid wall defenses in the face of Spain.

The stone wall defense of Paraguay eventually gave in to David Villa who scored the goal on the 83rd minute which sent the Spaniards to the semi-finals.

Key Takeaway

This was an outstanding game but in the end Spain are moving to the semi-finals. This now set Spain for an epic and gigantic battle against Germany. That should be the game to watch.

Below are the highlights:

Full-time – this was a great game and both sides played their usual brand of football. Spain however was able to get one through to the net.

83′ SPAIN SCORES via Villa

Spain is powering their way to a goal, once of these shots would hurt Paraguay.

Half-time – Spain has been their usual attacking self and Paraguay is in their usual defensive form. But the number of attacks Spain is throwing would sooner or later find a goal for the Spaniards in the second half.

Pre-game: Paraguay vs Spain (03 Jul 2010)Match Details
Paraguay-Spain, Quarter Finals, Ellis Park Stadium, Saturday 03 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain is a joy to watch as these guys play with a lot of aggressiveness, ball possession, running game and looking to score in every possession. David Villa and Fernando Torres would be watched closely as they are leading this charge. Spain is playing their best FIFA World Cup team in decades and they could go to the semi-finals with a win here.

Why Paraguay would win?

Paraguay is a counterattacking team who prefer to put up stone wall defenses, frustrate and tire their opponents, wait for their opponents to make defensive lapses as they push the ball aggressively and counterattack for a goal.

Key Takeaway

This is going to be a contrasting game between the two countries where Spain is looking to attack aggressively and score via a barrage of shots on goal, Paraguay on the other hand would wait for Spain to tire out and score on counterattacks.

This is going to be calm but interesting game to watch.

Match & Result: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)Winner: Germany
Score: Argentina(0) vs Germany(4)

74′ Friedrich (Germany)
68′, 89′ Klose (Germany)
03′ Muller (Germany)

Recap

What was supposed to be an epic game proved too much for Lionel Messi and Argentina as they got demolished by Germany. Germany is the third youngest team next to Korea DPR and Ghana but their youth certainly paid off as they run wild on the field as Argentina could not keep up with the pace losing by four big goals.

This is perhaps the biggest loss Argentina has suffered against Germany and this is a repeat of the 2006 quarter finals loss to the same team.

Key Takeaway

Germany was a strong team going into the tournament but today they are legit contenders on winning the FIFA World Cup Finals which they last won 20 years ago in 1990.

This young team was expected to gain experience in this tournament and become contenders in 2014 but it seems the time of Germany is this year.

Below are the highlights:

Full-time

This is another heartbreaker as Argentina didn’t equalize and they didn’t put up a good fight against Germany. They have deteriorated in the second half.

89′ GERMANY SCORES via Klose

74′ GERMANY SCORES via Friedrich

68′ GERMANY SCORES via Klose

Half-time

This was supposed to be a great first half if it wasn’t for the spoiler of Muller on a header from a free kick. Argentina made that defensive breakdown and at this level, teams win on small things.

Pre-game: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)Match Details
Argentina-Germany, Quarter-Finals, Cape Town, Wednesday 03 July, 16.00 (local time)

Why Germany would win?

Germany has played so well bringing the game to their opponents. Philip Lahm, Podolksi has been very efficient setting up plays and Miroslav Klose moves and positions himself so well to open scoring opportunities for their country.

This side is capable of scoring and even if they are down on goals, this team find ways to comeback and win.

Why Argentina would win?

Argentina has created the best plays in this tournament and Lionel Messi has been phenomenal running the field, setting plays, attacking and making sure their players like Higuain can have a field day scoring goals.

Key Takeaway

This is going to be a game to watch where two high octane, high attacking teams with deadly strikers are going to score goals to the delight of the crowd.

Match & Result: Netherlands vs Brazil (02 Jul 2010)

in Uncategorized

Match & Result: Netherlands vs Brazil (02 Jul 2010)Winner: [to be updated after game]
Score: Netherlands(2) vs Brazil(1)

68′ Sneijder (Netherlands)
53′ Melo (Netherlands)
10′ Robinho (Brazil)

Recap

This is a hurt breaker as Brazil got eliminated by Netherlands. Brazil is ranked number 1 in FIFA and they were expected to win this year and not get eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Brazil scored a goal quickly on the 10th minute via a breakaway by Robinho. That goal proved to be the final score by Brazil.

Netherlands would not go away and they got their equalizer on the 53rd minute on a huge error by Julio Ceasar, goalkeeper of Brazil. The goalkeeper went ahead and charged to the ball where he hit on a collision with fellow Brazilian.

Sneijder got a goal via a header pass from fellow dutchman who got the ball via a free kick from Arjen Robben. That was a beautiful goal which freezed Julio Ceasar on his tracks.

Netherlands played aggressively even when they got the lead were Brazilian Melo lost his temper and was sent off with a red card.

I think that was a stupid move, the Finals is in the line and this guy losing it at the biggest stage in the world was unacceptable.

Key Takeaway

This was a historic upset and Brazil bowing out after leading most of the way via the goal of Robinho. The Brazilian squad never showed urgency until Netherlands scored the second goal from which Brazil attacked aggressively but Netherlands just wouldn’t move an inch. These guys stayed with the five time champions every step of the way.
