Pre-game: Netherlands vs Spain (11 Jul 2010)Match Details
Netherlands-Spain, Finals, Johannesburg – Soccer City Stadium, Sunday 11 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain are the European Champions and they have the best team in decades fielded today with David Villa, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez playing in-synch, smooth and deadly on offense. Spain’s midfield would control the offense and these guys defense have been top notch giving only two goals throughout the tournament.

Why Netherlands would win?

If you have seen the Netherlands vs Brazil game, the dutchmen played strong and rough anchored on Arjen Robben, supported by Wesley Sneijder. These guys are so tough on the field that they could get their opponents losing control and focus. Arjen Robben’s ability to carry the play feeding Sneijder for a goal is the key for Netherlands.

Key Takeaway

Spain is looking for their first FIFA World Cup championships and their European Championship gives them confidence and experience towards winning the tournament. Iker Casillas‘ ability to stop goals, call out stone wall defenses on free kicks from opponents would win the game for this team.

Netherlands is going to be strong throughout the game and the combo of Arjen and Sneijder is going to make for some exciting results.

I am routing for Spain, and I would like these guys to win. The Spaniards get my vote.

Pre-game: Uruguay vs Germany (10 Jul 2010)

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Uruguay vs Germany (10 Jul 2010)Match Details
Uruguay-Germany, Third Place, Port Elizabeth – Port, Saturday 10 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Germany would win?

Germany has proven they are a scoring machine and being the third youngest team in the tournament have showed everyone their ability to run, setup plays, counterattack with blinding speed and score four goals in a game, something they have done three times in 2010 FIFA World cup.

Miroslav Klose is a deadly striker and he can put up two goals tonight and expect something from Muller and company to do the same.

Why Uruguay would win?

Uruguay is fielding their best national team in decades and they are powered by Diego Forlan on the scoring end while their defense is a strong wall stopping opponents. This team would be patient for counter attacks and goal scoring opportunities.

Key Takeaway

This may not be the finals but both these teams would want to have a podium finish in the tournament. Germany has beaten Portugal in 2006 finishing third in the tournament and I have my money on this team again.

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Germany vs Spain (07 Jul 2010)Match Details
Germany-Spain, Semi-Finals, Durban, Thursday 07 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain has the experience, composure to win this game. The European champions is the best attacking team in the tournament this year and they have attacked the goal more than any team. Fernando Torres, David Villa and the entire Spanish team attack relentlessly and they find ways to score a goal for a win.

Why Germany would win?

Germany has gone wild in this game having scored the most number of goals in the tournament at 13. They have scored 4 goals in a game more than once and the 2006 golden boot awardee Miroslav Klose is looking to make history as the highest scoring player in FIFA World Cup.

Germany is the third youngest team in the tournament which gives them the legs to run and run with Spain and even outrun their opponents in the end.

Key Takeaway

This is an explosive game and while Spain has the experience for a stable gameplay all throughout until they score a goal for the win, Germany has Miroslav Klose who is a cold-blooded striker that can deliver the goal calmly and accurately in the game. With Germany’s third youngest legs scoring 4 goals in their games multiple times, I have my bets on Germany.

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Paraguay vs Spain (03 Jul 2010)Match Details
Paraguay-Spain, Quarter Finals, Ellis Park Stadium, Saturday 03 July, 20.30 (local time)

Why Spain would win?

Spain is a joy to watch as these guys play with a lot of aggressiveness, ball possession, running game and looking to score in every possession. David Villa and Fernando Torres would be watched closely as they are leading this charge. Spain is playing their best FIFA World Cup team in decades and they could go to the semi-finals with a win here.

Why Paraguay would win?

Paraguay is a counterattacking team who prefer to put up stone wall defenses, frustrate and tire their opponents, wait for their opponents to make defensive lapses as they push the ball aggressively and counterattack for a goal.

Key Takeaway

This is going to be a contrasting game between the two countries where Spain is looking to attack aggressively and score via a barrage of shots on goal, Paraguay on the other hand would wait for Spain to tire out and score on counterattacks.

This is going to be calm but interesting game to watch.

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Argentina vs Germany (03 Jul 2010)Match Details
Argentina-Germany, Quarter-Finals, Cape Town, Wednesday 03 July, 16.00 (local time)

Why Germany would win?

Germany has played so well bringing the game to their opponents. Philip Lahm, Podolksi has been very efficient setting up plays and Miroslav Klose moves and positions himself so well to open scoring opportunities for their country.

This side is capable of scoring and even if they are down on goals, this team find ways to comeback and win.

Why Argentina would win?

Argentina has created the best plays in this tournament and Lionel Messi has been phenomenal running the field, setting plays, attacking and making sure their players like Higuain can have a field day scoring goals.

Key Takeaway

This is going to be a game to watch where two high octane, high attacking teams with deadly strikers are going to score goals to the delight of the crowd.

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Netherlands vs Brazil (02 Jul 2010)Match Details
Netherlands-Brazil, Quarter Finals, Nelson Mandela Bay, Wednesday 02 July, 16.00 (local time)

Why Brazil would win?

Kaka, Fabiano, Robinho are deadly attackers who can setup plays, control possession, put the ball on their half, wait for an opening and score a goal. These guys are going to do this over and over again until they bury their opponents.

Brazil is very aggressive but patient and they can control and bring the game to their opponent.

Brazil are favorites to win this tournament and expect this team to go all the way.

Why Netherlands would win?

Netherlands was never challenged in the group stage and with attackers Arjen Robben, and Robin van Persie leading the charge, the dutchmen can outplay and score a goal or two. They have the ability to hold off their opponents and these guys are here to win.

Key Takeaway

This is a highly anticipated game and expect these two teams who would have had the power to win this finals are meeting in the quarter finals. Expect high octane game from these two teams.

Pre-game: Spain vs Portugal (29 Jun 2010)

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Spain vs Portugal (29 Jun 2010)Match Details
Spain-Portugal, Semi-Finals, Green Point Stadium, Wednesday 29 June, 20.30 (local time)

Why Portugal would win?

Portugal can be good or great depending on the mood of Cristiano Ronaldo and their entire team. When they are good then usually end in draw, but when they are all fired up they usually win big.

Portugal is still very much under Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance and if this guy performs, there is no stopping Portugal.

Why Spain would win?

Spain plays as a team and they power each other as a team. The European champions plays strong defense that could disable Cristiano Ronaldo. Spain as a team is very difficult to stop.

Key Takeaway

Either team can win FIFA World Cup 2010 but I have my hopes on Spain alongside Argentina and Brazil in the top three teams.

in Uncategorized

Pre-game: Paraguay vs Japan (29 Jun 2010)Match Details
Paraguay-Japan, Semi-Finals, Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Wednesday 29 June, 16.00 (local time)

Why Japan would win?

Japan is strong defender who takes their time setting up stone wall defenses while their opponents setup up play. When the right opportunity comes, Japan counterattacks quickly where their star player Honda weaves his magic to score a goal.

Japan can be patient all throughout the game and wait for the right breakaway run.

Why Paraguay would win?

Like Japan, Paraguay is a very strong defensive team anchored on their 4-3-3 formation. This team also has the experience led by Justo Villar, Denis Caniza, Roque Santa Cruz and Julio Cesar Caceres where each one of them has 5 or more appearances in FIFA World Cup Finals.

Key Takeaway

Whoever wins the game will make history as their first appearance in the quarter finals. However, this game isn’t as exciting as other matchups and whoever wins would lose in the next round.

Match & Result: Brazil vs Chile (28 Jun 2010)

Match & Result: Brazil vs Chile (28 Jun 2010)Winner: Brazil
Score: Brazil(3) vs Chile(0)
59′ Robinho (Brazil)
38′ Fabiano (Brazil)
35′ Juan (Brazil)

Recap

Brazil was in control throughout the game executing their usual plays, running counterattacks, stopping their opponents, destroying the other side’s rhythm while maintaining their own rhythm.

Brazil scored three goals and didn’t allow Chile a single score. Brazil has improved game after game as they seemed to lack efficiency after allowing opponents to score in the group stage, but today Brazil has upped their standards.

Key Takeaway

Brazil is still the favorite team to win the World Cup and they have proven they can raise the bar after every game. What’s fascinating about Brazil is they seem to do it effortlessly.

This is going to be a great showdown against Netherlands.

Match & Result: Netherlands vs Slovakia (28 Jun 2010)

Match & Result: Netherlands vs Slovakia (28 Jun 2010)Winner: [to be updated after game]
Score: Netherlands(2) vs Slovakia(1)
18′ Robben (Netherlands)
84′ Sneijder (Netherlands)

Recap

As I have said in the pre-game for Netherlands vs Slovakia, Netherlands cruised through the group stage unchallenged and the return of star dutch man Arjen Robben only makes Netherlands win in the bag. Arjen didn’t wait long enough as he quickly scored a goal on the 18th minute.

Netherlands held the lead until the 84th minute when Sneijder sealed the victory.

Vittek from Slovakia came in with a goal on the 90′ + 4; it was a heroic effort but not enough.

Key Takeaway

Netherlands is expected to move deeper into the tournament and they did just that. Netherlands have enough firepower to score goals and with Arjen back in full gear, things are looking good for Netherlands.
